"Plate production" before the modern printer
and digital printing press was a simple operation to drive a typesetter -
- a communications program. Althought it is still a "communications
program", the ACT2˛ plate production software provides the user an ability
to designate several output devices that may very well be a mix of digital
printers, typesetters, color printers and black and white printers. The
ACT2˛ software that controls the communication can be directed to send its
output to a specific output device depending on the "category" that has
been assigned the jobs making up the plate.
A plate may be directed to go to a color
printer on one pass, to generate a proof; and then to a digital printer
once the plate has been accepted for production.
